1. What Onyx does

Onyx is an escrow service for peer-to-peer trades between members of the Discord server where Onyx runs. The Onyx bot is only available on that server and cannot be added to other servers. The buyer pays the price in Litecoin (LTC) to a deposit address created for that deal. Onyx holds the funds until the deal is completed and then pays the seller, minus or plus the service fee as agreed. Onyx is not a party to the trade, does not sell or buy anything, and does not check the quality of goods or services.

2. Deal process

  1. A user creates a deal with the price, currency, category, and who pays the service fee. The counterparty accepts it. On acceptance the terms, the fee, the seller's payout address, and the buyer's refund address are locked and cannot be changed.
  2. Onyx quotes the exact LTC amount using an exchange rate locked for a limited time. The deal is funded once the deposit reaches the required number of blockchain confirmations (currently 3).
  3. The seller delivers and marks the deal as delivered. The buyer then confirms receipt, which releases the funds irreversibly, or reports that the item was not received, which opens a dispute.
  4. Funds are only ever sent to the addresses locked in the deal and to the operator's fee address.

3. Fees

The service fee is 0.20 (in the deal's currency) plus 2% of the price, rounded up to the nearest minor unit (e.g. cent). It is paid by the buyer, the seller, or both in equal parts, as agreed in the deal. The fee settings in force when a deal is created apply to that deal until it ends. The Litecoin network (miner) fee of payouts and refunds is deducted from the amount sent to the recipient.

4. Exchange rates, under- and overpayments

LTC amounts are calculated with an exchange rate from public market data sources, locked for the validity of the quote. Deposits received after the quote expired are re-evaluated at a new rate. If too little is received, the deal stays underfunded until the missing amount arrives; otherwise the received amount is refunded. Any amount paid in excess is returned to the buyer's refund address together with the payout. Payments must be made in LTC on the network shown; funds sent on another network or in another currency may be lost.

Disputes are decided by a moderator who is not part of the deal. The moderator can only release the funds to the seller's locked address or refund the buyer's locked address, with a written reason. The decision is final within Onyx.

7. Security

Onyx never sends the first direct message and never asks for passwords, tokens, private keys, or seed phrases. Only deposit to the address shown in your private deal thread or on this website. You are responsible for the correctness of the addresses you provide; blockchain transactions cannot be reversed.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for: the goods or services traded; losses caused by incorrect addresses or payments provided by users; delays or failures of the Litecoin network, of block explorers, or of exchange-rate sources; changes in the value of Litecoin; or indirect or consequential damages. The operator's total liability for a deal is limited to the service fee received for that deal, except in cases of intent or gross negligence.

9. Suspension

We may suspend deals or payouts while investigating suspected abuse or security incidents, or when required by law.

10. Changes

We may change these terms with effect for future deals. The version accepted at the creation of a deal applies to that deal.
